The Fourth Global Summit under the theme of "Increasing the effectiveness and relevance of our institutes" will explore:

• GADRI Contributions to the 2016 Science & Technology Roadmap; and how best could GADRI promote SFDRR 2030 agenda?
• SDGs and Climate change and adaptation - what engagement mechanisms and research linkages are needed to influence research directions among policy makers, governments, localities, media, etc.?
• The Tokyo Statement 2017 and the SFDRR Agenda 2030.
• Research Funding - Where are the funding for disaster risk reduction activities coming from and are they invested to right causes and areas that are most needed

The Second Global Summit of Research Institutes for Disaster Risk Reduction: Development of a Research Road Map for the Next Decade was held at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan in March 2015.

The First Global Summit of Research Institutes for Disaster Risk Reduction：

The catastrophic consequences of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami have brought into sharp focus the need to reassess existing disaster risk management practices and disaster prevention and preparedness planning. More than ever, lessons from this as well as other events around the world show that it is imperative that we promote interdisciplinary approaches in order to adequately address existing disaster prevention and preparedness gaps particularly those arising from possible interactions and systemic effects of natural hazards on people, the natural and built environment, as well as the social and economic systems that we all depend on. The Summit represents an invitation and an opportunity for all research organizations involved in disaster risk reduction (DRR) to reflect on these challenges as well as to explore new paradigms for DRR.
