Prof. Hirokazu Tatano was one of the presenters at the 42^nd Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop held at the Natural Hazards Center, University of Colorado-Boulder, USA from 9 to 12 July 2017 under the theme of "Knowledge to Action: Reducing Hazards Losses and Promoting Disaster Resilience". Prof. Tatano presented the Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI) during the Recent Research and Projects Session.

Another development was the proposal to form the North and South American Alliance of Disaster Risk Reduction which was supported by the majority of the participants.
