Disaster Competence Network Austria as a scientific collaboration platform between universities, research institutes and their stakeholders is organized as an open and non-profit association under university management. The basic idea behind the network is to bundle the scientific expertise in Austria in the field of security and disaster research and to act as an academic contact and cooperation partner for the public and private sector.

DCNA is strengthening security and disaster research by:

  • · Improving the Coherence of Security and Disaster Research in Austria
  • · Increasing the efficiency of security and disaster research by improving the networking of all stakeholders and by cooperatively creating and exploiting synergies
  • · Improving the national and international visibility of security and disaster research in Austria
  • · Sharpening and strengthening the understanding of the social relevance of security and disaster research in Austria
  • · Promotion and expansion of cooperation with other, influential research areas

Achievements:

  • Presentation of DCNA in the Austrian and European area
  • Constant extension of the existing network of 12 ordinary and 3 associate members and strategic partnerships
  • Organization of the Austrian Disaster Network Days in October 2018 in Vienna
  • Kick-Off of DCNA Working Groups with the focus on transferring research results to practice, developing research topics, providing expertise and infrastructure
  • Attendance of DCNA at different international events (e.g.: Hydraulic Engineering Symposium Graz in September 2018, Understanding Risk Balkans Conference Belgrade in September 2108, AGIT - Symposium and Expo for Applied Geoinformatics Salzburg in July 2018, 3rd Annual Scientific Seminar DRMKC Sofia in April 2018 etc.)
